“Let all things be done for edification.”1 Corinthians 14:26b
What does it mean to be a daughter of the Lord of Heaven and Earth? How is a young lady to behave when she is the daughter of a King?
In society today, this is hard to define and seems even harder to live out. We are surrounded with messages on how a girl is to behave, look and act. Popular culture tells us that girls are to be loud, forward, assertive and sensual. Popular culture shows girls wearing scanty clothes and idolizes their definition of a perfect body. There are those who reject this idea, they state that girls must live a quiet life, in the home. Instead of mini-skirts and tank-tops, they dress in clothes that resemble the pioneer days of old.
Which of these views is correct? Is either one?
Ever since I was a young girl, I have fought the battle between these two very distinctive worlds: one the embraces the world with a full heart and the other who completely rejects the world they now live in and seem to hold on to the past.
In Proverbs 31, a description of a “virtuous” woman is given. The list of accomplishments, talents and responsibilities of this woman can be overwhelming. I used to read and think that this was an impossible and unfair to place pressure such as this on a woman. Years ago, I saw it as an old-fashion and restrictive. I wrongly viewed the Proverbs 31 woman as being bound to home life and a type of slavery. How can a woman live up to such demands? As time has past, I see now the wonder that this passage holds. The woman has knowledge of finances, cooking, leadership, entrepreneurship, hospitality and many other talents. Again I ask, how can a woman live up to such demands?
I still am trying to discover how God requires and desires me to live my life as a daughter of His. As each day passes, He is revealing more and through this blog I hope to share the lessons I am learning. I hope to encourage other young ladies in their own walk and build up those who read to also seek out how God would have them live. I hope as I become a Proverbs 31 woman, I can encourage others as well. I know that I may never become the complete fulfillment of a Proverbs 31 woman; but she is my ideal. I was once told that ideals should not always be looked on as attainable, since this may discourage instead of encourage. Instead, they are like stars, guiding us on a path.
I desire is to be all the God desires me to be and to bring glory to Him. I seek to encourage others as this journey of becoming His version of a Proverbs 31 woman.
Blessings to those who read this and I am praying for you, dear young woman. I may not know you, but we are sisters in Christ and therefore you are on my mind and in my prayers.
